Education levels

how does it differ from other levels?
D3
The D3 Information Technology program lasts 3 years and produces associate graduates (A.Md.). The focus is more practical — network installation skills, server administration, and troubleshooting — without delving deep into research theory. It is suitable if you want to quickly start working in technical roles.
S2
The Master's (S2) Information Technology program lasts 1.5–2 years and produces Master's graduates (M.TI or M.Kom.). The focus is deeper in research, large-scale IT infrastructure management, and IT governance. It is suitable for managerial or academic positions.

vsTeknik Informatika (Informatics Engineering)
Teknik Informatika focuses more on programming, algorithms, and software development. Teknologi Informasi (Information Technology) focuses more on infrastructure — networks, servers, cloud, and system operations.
vsSistem Informasi (Information Systems)
Sistem Informasi combines business and IT to design systems that support business decisions. Teknologi Informasi is more technical, focusing on the infrastructure and operations of the technology itself.
vsIlmu Komputer (Computer Science)
Ilmu Komputer is more theoretical — computational theory, discrete mathematics, artificial intelligence. Teknologi Informasi is more applied and practical, focusing on deploying technology in the field.
vsTeknik Komputer (Computer Engineering)
Teknik Komputer leans toward hardware and embedded systems. Teknologi Informasi leans toward software infrastructure and networks.

Myth vs Fact

MYTH Teknologi Informasi is the same as Teknik Informatika, just with a different name.
FACT The focus is different. Teknologi Informasi (Information Technology) focuses on infrastructure and system operations (networks, servers, cloud), while Teknik Informatika (Informatics Engineering) focuses on software development and algorithms.
MYTH IT graduates can only become computer technicians.
FACT The career prospects are broad: network engineer, DevOps engineer, cloud architect, cybersecurity analyst, IT manager, and even IT infrastructure consultant.
MYTH You don't need an IT degree to work in IT; a bootcamp is enough.
FACT A bootcamp is good for specific skills, but an S1 bachelor's degree gives you the theoretical foundation and a credential that many companies still require. A combination of both is ideal.
MYTH IT is a major with no mathematics.
FACT It still includes discrete mathematics, statistics, and logic — but the portion is smaller compared to Ilmu Komputer (Computer Science) or Teknik Informatika (Informatics Engineering).

Facility Checklist

Is there a computer network lab with physical routers, switches, and access points?
Is there a server lab or mini data center for systems administration practice?

Check the program's own accreditation rating (not just the campus's) on official sites. International accreditation is a plus for certain fields.

Student–faculty ratio & how to calculate it

ratio = active students ÷ full-time faculty
Example: 600 students ÷ 25 faculty = 1 : 24
Ideal: ≈1:20 for STEM/science fields, ≈1:30 for social sciences/humanities (per Ministry of Education guidance).
!The smaller the second number, the more attention each student gets. Above 1:40 is worth flagging.
!Also check faculty qualifications (Master's/PhD) and whether there are industry practitioner lecturers.
