Education levels

how does it differ from other levels?
D3
Duration of 3 years (6 semesters), focused on practical and operational skills. Graduates earn an Associate Degree (A.Md.) and are ready for administrative or support staff roles. The curriculum has fewer theoretical courses and more practicums and internships.
D4
Duration of 4 years (8 semesters), an applied diploma level equivalent to an S1 in credit hours. It places more emphasis on applied skills than an academic S1. Graduates earn an Applied Bachelor's degree (S.Tr.) and are suited for operational specialist roles in industry.
S2 (Magister Manajemen)
Duration of 1.5–2 years, designed for experienced professionals. Focuses on strategic analysis, research, and the development of management theory. The final requirement is a thesis. Offers deeper concentrations (e.g., Islamic financial management, global marketing management). Graduates are prepared for managerial and senior consulting roles.
S3 (Doktor Ilmu Manajemen)
Duration of 3–4 years, focused on original research and new scholarly contributions. The final requirement is a dissertation. Intended for careers as academics, researchers, or high-level strategy consultants. Features less direct business practice and more focus on theory and research methodology.

Myth vs Fact

MYTH Management graduates immediately become managers right after graduation.
FACT Most graduates start in staff or trainee positions. A manager role requires years of work experience and proven performance, not just a degree.
MYTH Management is an easy and non-specific major.
FACT Even though its scope is broad, you still choose a concentration (marketing, finance, HR, operations) and study that field in depth.
MYTH Management graduates can only work in private companies.
FACT Career prospects span multiple sectors: state-owned enterprises, government, NGOs, startups, and starting your own business.
MYTH Management is the same as an MBA.
FACT An S1 in Management is a bachelor's program that builds a business foundation. An MBA (S2) is designed for experienced professionals who want to move into strategic roles.
MYTH Studying management does not require mathematics.
FACT Courses in statistics, accounting, and financial management require a solid grasp of numbers.

Facility Checklist

GUIDE

Questions specific to Management to bring to an open house or campus visit. Important facilities vary by program — these matter most.

Note: Myjor doesn't maintain a facilities database per campus. This is a tool for you to assess it yourself.

Does the campus have a computer lab with business analytics software (SPSS, Tableau, or similar)?
Is there a business simulation room or business lab for case study practice?
Does the library provide access to international journals (ProQuest, EBSCO, JSTOR) for final-project research?
Does the campus provide co-working spaces or group discussion rooms?
Is there a business incubator or entrepreneurship center for students who want to start a startup?
Does the campus have a structured internship program with industry partners?
Is there a career center or job board that actively helps graduates?
Are the classrooms equipped with projectors and adequate presentation facilities?
Is the campus WiFi stable and available across all study areas?
Is there a language lab to improve international business communication skills?

Tip: ask for a tour of the relevant labs/studios, not just the main building. Ask about access hours and whether undergrads can use the equipment.

04

Academic Quality

GUIDE

Three objective ways to assess a program's academic quality — including how to check them yourself.

A

Program accreditation status

Check the program's own accreditation rating (not just the campus's) on official sites. International accreditation is a plus for certain fields.

Unggul / A — top tier Baik Sekali / B Baik / C

Check at: BAN-PT (banpt.or.id) or the relevant LAM, & PDDIKTI (pddikti.kemdikbud.go.id).

B

Student–faculty ratio & how to calculate it

ratio = active students ÷ full-time faculty
Example: 600 students ÷ 25 faculty = 1 : 24
Ideal: ≈1:20 for STEM/science fields, ≈1:30 for social sciences/humanities (per Ministry of Education guidance).
!The smaller the second number, the more attention each student gets. Above 1:40 is worth flagging.
!Also check faculty qualifications (Master's/PhD) and whether there are industry practitioner lecturers.
C

Faculty research — relevant & current?

Look up faculty profiles and publications (Google Scholar / SINTA). For Management, look for those researching currently relevant topics:

Digital marketing strategies for MSMEsSuccess factors for startups in IndonesiaThe influence of leadership on employee performanceAnalysis of investment and portfolio decisionsSupply chain management in the manufacturing industryConsumer behavior in e-commerceCorporate governance and company performanceDigital transformation in traditional businessesSocial entrepreneurship and its impact on societyRisk management in the financial sector

E.g., is there faculty researching AI, or cancer-related topics? Active research topics signal the program keeps up with the field.

ASK AT THE OPEN HOUSE

"What's this program's student–faculty ratio? What research topics are faculty currently working on? What percentage of graduates find field-relevant jobs within 6 months?"

05

Partnerships

GUIDE

Campus partnerships heavily shape internship, research, and career paths. Which partners matter varies by program — here's what's relevant for Management.

Industrial internships (MSIB / Kampus Merdeka)
Does the campus have an official internship pipeline to companies through the MSIB or Independent Study program? How many students are placed each year?
Banks and financial institutions
Is there any internship or recruitment partnership with banks, insurance companies, or fintech firms? Ask for a list of active partners.
State-owned enterprises (BUMN) and large corporations
Are there Management Trainee programs or campus hiring drives from BUMN or multinational companies? Ask about their graduate placement track record.
Business incubators and startups
Does the campus have a business incubator or a partnership with a startup accelerator? Is there mentorship for students who want to start a business?
Professional associations
Is the campus affiliated with management professional associations (for example, IAMI or AAMBI), and can students pursue professional certifications?
Joint industry research
Is there any research collaboration between lecturers and companies? Are the lecturers' research findings published or applied in industry?

Ask for a list of official partners with active MoUs — not just logos in a brochure. Ask how many students are actually placed each year.
