how does it differ from other levels?
D3
A D3 program in computing (e.g., D3 Ilmu Komputer at USU or D3 Teknik Komputer) lasts 3 years and consists of approximately 60% practice and 40% theory. Graduates are better prepared for work as technicians or junior programmers, but the scope of theory is narrower compared to an S1. Some campuses offering this: USU, UTDI, Telkom University, UBSI.
S2 (Magister)
The Magister Ilmu Komputer (MIK) master's program lasts approximately 2 years and focuses on research and deep specialization. Students are expected to actively conduct research and write a thesis. Available at UI (since 1988), UGM, ITS, and several private universities. Suitable for those who want to delve into specific fields like AI, NLP, or computational theory, or pursue a career in academia.
S3 (Doktor)
The Doctoral Program in Computer Science lasts approximately 3-4 years, centering on independent research and dissertation writing. Available at ITS, UGM, Udinus, and UBL. Graduates are expected to make original contributions to the field of computer science. It is typically pursued by prospective lecturers, researchers, or research leaders in the technology industry.

Check the program's own accreditation rating (not just the campus's) on official sites. International accreditation is a plus for certain fields.

Student–faculty ratio & how to calculate it

ratio = active students ÷ full-time faculty
Example: 600 students ÷ 25 faculty = 1 : 24
Ideal: ≈1:20 for STEM/science fields, ≈1:30 for social sciences/humanities (per Ministry of Education guidance).
!The smaller the second number, the more attention each student gets. Above 1:40 is worth flagging.
!Also check faculty qualifications (Master's/PhD) and whether there are industry practitioner lecturers.
